youple.tv lets you watch YouTube videos with friends in sync. We keep as little about you as we can, and we never sell it or use it for ads.
Using it as a guest
You don't need an account. In a room, the name you pick is shared with the people in that room and remembered in your own browser so you don't have to type it again. The room keeps its video queue and playback position so everyone stays in sync. If a room's host removes you, the room remembers your name and a random ID for your browser (or your account ID, if you're signed in) so you stay out until the host lets you back in or the room is deleted.
Signing in
If you sign in with Google, Discord or an email link, our sign-in provider, Supabase, receives your email address, your name and your profile picture from that service. We use them only to sign you in, show your name in rooms and keep your saved rooms in your account. We set cookies that keep you signed in. We don't use advertising cookies, and set analytics cookies only if you allow them.
We store your email preferences and the latest time your account was seen in a room. Optional email subscriptions are off by default.
We remember your language choice in a cookie for one year. It is used only to show your chosen language.
Saved rooms
Rooms you save are stored with your account ID, your display name at the time you created the room, the room name and when it was created, so you can find them again.
Discord voice calls
Voice calls are optional and take place in Discord. When you join one, Discord asks whether youple.tv may add you to the room's Discord server: youple.tv's own server, or the host's if they linked one. You stay a member until you leave that server in Discord. We keep your Discord account ID in a cookie on your device for 30 days so you don't have to connect again. A room uses it to let you into its call, or to keep you out if the host removes you, and shows the Discord names and pictures of the people in its voice channel. To prevent abuse, we count the calls each Discord account starts on our server for one hour. If you link your own server to a room, we store your Discord account ID and the server you chose with your account. We keep no access to your Discord account after you connect.
Browser extension
The youple.tv browser extension keeps the names and links of rooms you've opened in your own browser. It reads a YouTube video's link only to show its buttons, and sends that link to your youple.tv room only when you click one of them. If you're signed in on youple.tv, it asks youple.tv for your saved rooms using your sign-in. It doesn't collect your browsing history, doesn't track what you watch and sends nothing to anyone else.
To keep youple.tv safe, administrators can view a room, including its chat, for example after a report. They can't change anything in it.
Service statistics
We count rooms created, rooms used by 2 or more people, returning signed-in members, room joins, videos added, playback starts, accepted chat messages, accepted extension sends, games started by activity, Play a file starts, mood playlist picks, Discord voice channels opened and room playback hours to understand how the service is used. Daily viewer counts use scrambled identifiers that change each day. These statistics contain no names, emails, IP addresses or video titles, and are kept for 90 days. The private administrator dashboard also checks how many people are connected to rooms now. We do not add advertising cookies or track you across websites.
We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views, which pages are visited, the country and the website you came from. It sets no cookies and doesn't identify or follow you across websites.
Google Analytics
If you allow it, we use Google Analytics to see how people find youple.tv and which pages they use. Google then sets cookies and receives the pages you open, your browser and device, and the site that sent you. Room links and room names are never sent; every room is counted only as “room”. Google uses your IP address to estimate your country and city and doesn't store it. Advertising features are off, and Google keeps the data for 2 months. Until you choose, Google Analytics isn't loaded at all.
Contacting us
If you use the contact or bug report form, we receive your message, the email address and name you enter, and whether you're signed in. Bug reports also include the page you name, your browser and your screen size. We use this only to answer you and fix problems, and delete it when it's no longer needed.
Who handles the data
- Cloudflare runs the site and stores rooms. Like any web host, it briefly keeps request logs to run and protect the service.
- Supabase handles sign-in and stores your account.
- Resend delivers messages from the contact form to our inbox.
- Google measures visits with Google Analytics, only if you allow it.
- Discord hosts voice calls. Our bot sees who is in a room's voice channel and whether they're muted, so the room can show it.
- SponsorBlock provides the parts of videos a room skips. The room asks for them with only the first characters of a scrambled (hashed) video ID, so SponsorBlock can't tell which video you're watching, and nothing about you is sent.
- YouTube plays videos in its embedded player under Google's privacy policy.
Your choices
You can sign out at any time. To delete your account and saved rooms, send us a message or email contact@youple.tv, and we will remove them.
